OS
X Virus Scare
Early this month software developer, Intego announced
a trojan horse targeting OS X, and encouraged
users to install its VirusBarrier software to
combat the virus. The software company indicated
that there was a potential for a virus to pose
as an MP3 file, lure a user to open the file and
trigger a virus application.
The
company admitted that the trojan horse was not
widely released and that the virus was benign.
The announcement has since been criticized as
an attempt to spread fear, uncertainty and doubt
(and sell virus protection software).
